چکیده

Total electron content (TEC) data, obtained from GPS satellites can be used as a tool for extracting earthquake precursor. In this paper, a pattern matching technique is used for monitoring TEC variation during and prior to the earthquake. For the experiment two major earthquake events i.e. Bhutan earthquake on 21st September 2009 and Nepal earthquake on 25th April 2015 are considered for analysis. Work is based on TEC data collected from GPS at Gauhati (26o 10' N, 91o 45' E) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellite data.

A possible space-based tsunami early warning system using observations of the tsunami ionospheric hole

Ionospheric plasma disturbances after a large tsunami can be detected by measurement of the total electron content (TEC) between a Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite and its ground-based receivers. TEC depression lasting for a few minutes to tens of minutes termed as tsunami ionospheric hole (TIH) is formed above the tsunami source area. Here we describe the quantitative relationship bet...

Variations of the ionospheric electron density during the Bhuj seismic event

Ionospheric perturbations by natural geophysical activity, such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, have been studied since the great Alaskan earthquake in 1964. Measurements made from the ground show a variation of the critical frequency of the ionosphere layers before and after the shock. In this paper, we present an experimental investigation of the electron density variations around the ...

Recent Developments in Understanding Natural-Hazards-Generated TEC Perturbations: Measurements and Modeling Results

Natural hazards including earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis have been significant threats to humans throughout recorded history. Global navigation satellite systems (GNSS; including the Global Positioning System (GPS)) receivers have become primary sensors to measure signatures associated with natural hazards. These signatures typically include GPS-derived seismic deformation measure...
